Karlien JONKER – Mom and bridal consultant at Olivelli Bloemfontein

More than anything, Karlien Jonker from Bloemfontein wanted to be a mom. “Everyone is quick to tell you the good, the bad and the ugly about pregnancy, but by the age of 24 I was ready,” she recalls.


After 21 months of trying she finally fell pregnant with her first child. “Having never been overweight
before, I only picked up 12kg during my first pregnancy. And by the time my son was three months old I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. However, my shape was not the same” It was also at that point when Karlien found out that she was expecting baby number two. “With only a 13 month age gap between my babies, I knew my body would take an enormous knock. However, I was so thankful to be able to carry two healthy babies to full term that I decided to take it in my stride and rather tackle my transformation head on after giving birth.”


Following the birth of her second child, Karlien and her husband, JW Jonker, a Titan-sponsored athlete and professional rugby player, got to work. “I’m consistently surrounded by my husband’s intense exercise and Titan Nutrition supplementation regimens, so I knew where I had to lay my foundation if I wanted to lose all the baby weight and become the strongest version of myself.”


Karlien followed a nutritious diet plan she obtained from Titan Nutrition Supplements. “I needed something that was convenient and easy to follow, not to mention breastfeeding- safe. My diet mainly consisted of lean proteins and green veggies. I quashed all my hunger pangs, of which there were many, with Titan True Whey shakes. They were my saving grace!”


Karlien’s main motivation was not to body build or win a fitness competition. “All I wanted was to be able to run around on the beach in a bikini, with my kids and feel comfortable knowing I look lean and strong. I also want to set a good example for my children.” She knew that if she was going to make a success out of this she needed to commit. “As a mom to two busy babies under the age of two, I knew there would be 50 reasons every day why I didn’t have time to train or eat right. Thankfully becoming a mom has toughened me up and my ‘no-excuses’ rule makes me prioritise what’s important. I, therefore, make time to train and prep food and never allow myself to let things slip.”


After losing 24kg over 10 months, Karlien continues to maintain an exercise programme of weight training and cardio 4-6 times a week. She still follows her Titan Nutrition eating plan, too. “And I don’t go anywhere without
my Titan True Whey shake. It keeps me feeling full and satisfied and remains my go-to snack. I definitely don’t see
this as the end of my transformation, though. Rather, I feel like it’s only the beginning.”
